LONGi’s Green Power + Green Hydrogen solution supports MENA region zero carbon drive

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, December 9, 2023

During the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), LONGi and its partners in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region convened a roundtable meeting at the LONGi Solar+ Pavilion to deliberate on how "Green Power + Green Hydrogen" can effectively drive the energy transition of the MENA region. Distinguished participants from the Ministry of Energy & Minerals of Oman, ACWA POWER, ChinaPower International, along with other esteemed institutions and enterprise representatives actively engaged in this discourse. The event featured an insightful speech by Zhenguo Li, Founder and President of LONGi, James Jin, President of LONGi MEA&CA Utility, and Wei Zhou, General Manager of LONGi Hydrogen Manufacture Center & International Business.

Mr. Zhenguo Li, Founder & President of LONGi

During the meeting, Mr. Li emphasized that the MENA region conveys a complicated duality. On one hand, it is characterized by arid soil with limited rainfall, scarce vegetation, and a fragile natural environment highly susceptible to climate impacts. On the other hand, this region represents the world's most energy-rich area with abundant underground fossil fuel reserves and ample solar resources on its sun-drenched terrain. Due to its favourable position, MENA has the potential to evolve into a renewable energy hub capable of supplying copious amounts of sustainable energy worldwide. In light of that, fostering regional renewable energy development becomes an imperative choice intertwined with economic growth, energy security, and social welfare. By the end of 2023, LONGi component production capacity will reach 130GW, and as of now, LONGi has built an annual production capacity of 2.5GW of alkaline water electrolyzer, ranking first in the world. LONGi is ready and committed to supporting regional development providing cutting-edge technology and services.

Furthermore, he asserted that "Green Power" + "Green Hydrogen" not only represents the only pathway towards achieving "carbon neutrality," but also serves as an inevitable course of action for advancing the ongoing energy transition in the MENA region.

During the round table discussion, the guests shared ideas on the formulation and implementation of renewable energy policies. Dr Abdullah from Oman gave a speech about the substantial progress made by his country in the energy transition and green hydrogen, emphasize that Oman's road to achieving Vision 2040 coincides with LONGi's development strategy of "Green Power + Green Hydrogen". Dr. Bart from ACWA Power believes that the introduction of innovative technologies can enable people to enjoy reliable, cheap and clean renewable energy. ACWA Power has always been willing to  be open and collaborate with leading industrial players such as LONGi in technological innovation. In his speech, Dr Bart strongly promoted the region to embark on the fast track of energy transition. Mr Peng from PowerChina said that the Qatar Al-Kharsaa 800MW Solar Project, which was completed by PowerChina and supported by LONGi, meets the annual electricity consumption of about 300,000 households and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by about 900,000 tons per year, which is strong support for the commitment to a "carbon neutral" World Cup, and enables local people to enjoy low-carbon power supply and helps embark on the road of safe and green energy development.

James Jin, President of LONGi MEA&CA Utility

Mr. Jin from LONGi MEA&CA Utility, announced that LONGi was able to break and keep the world efficiency records with 26.81% for silicon solar cells and 33.9% for crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells. This means that with that advancement of technology, when using every 1-kilowatt hour of electricity, consumers in the future are going to pay less and less. That can be called the magic of technology and is something that you could never get from oil and gas. LONGi’s continuous technological breakthrough could help to drive down LCOE, realizing fair and just distribution of benefits for all.

Recently, LONGi has launched Hi-MO 7 modules based on high-efficiency HPDC cell technology. After strict evaluation and testing verification, this new product has been proven to reach above the standards  quality and long-term reliability. That can significantly reduce the cost of photovoltaic power in the desert area. LONGi is once again integrating innovation to contribute to the 'terawatt era,' creating high-value component products for the world's large ground power stations. LONGi has achieved large-scale mass production for Hi-MO 7, with a 30GW supply capacity by the end of 2023

Wei Zhou, General Manager of LONGi Hydrogen Manufacture Center & International Business,

Mr Zhou from LONGi Hydrogen said that through technological innovation, LONGi has developed a safe, reliable and convenient system that is easy to operate and maintain, reaching a  low level of LCOH. Besides, this system is suitable for intermittent hydrogen production of electrolytic water hydrogen, promoting the global green hydrogen industry faster with higher quality development. First of all, the control parameters of the ALK system can be dynamically adjusted when the power load fluctuates, and the operation strategy and cluster scheduling strategy can be used to deal with the fluctuating power supply. Secondly, in terms of Hydrogen production, we already achieve the cost of  $0.25/Nm3 can be achieved due to the low cost of green electricity.

As a leader in the renewable energy industry, LONGi will continue to invest in research and development, and improve the efficiency of solar and hydrogen green power generation efficiency.LONGi is committed to supporting the region with valuable technologies and products to enhance the overall  "Green Power + Green Hydrogen" quality plan.

800MW Al Kharsaah photovoltaic (PV) power project in Qatar

Qatar 800MW PV project commissioned in 2022 supported by LONGi has provided green power for the 2022 World Cup, helping Qatar realize its dream of hosting a "zero carbon" World Cup. Recently, in a continuous effort to improve the region green power generation, SEPCO III commissioned another power project in the Saudi Red Sea that will create 406MW from LONGi’s Mono PERC modules. The project is currently the world's largest off-grid installation and will light up 16 hotels and resorts with green renewable energy.

In terms of hydrogen energy, since 2023, LONGi Hydrogen Energy has exceeded 250MW in China, ranking first in China's electrolyzer market share LONGi’s market share in EMEA, America and APAC has also been growing at a fast pace. and also has breakthroughs in the EMEAAmerica and APAC market.

As the global carbon reduction process deepens, LONGi's "Green Power + Green Hydrogen" solution will be implemented in more and more regional projects, which will further accelerate the pace of energy transition in the MENA region. The green, healthy and sustainable development of the economy is of great significance. In the future, LONGi will continue to empower the green transition of energy structure in more regions with continuous innovation and strive to accelerate the global carbon neutrality process.
