The MESIA Solar Awards is the industry’s longest-standing and premier awards ceremony. This year features new categories, updated submission criteria, and enhanced evaluation standards.
Open to both MESIA members and non-members, the 2026 edition aims to spotlight the transformation of our sector while continuing to celebrate the exceptional talent and achievements shaping the MENA solar market.

Lennart van Walsum
Lennart is a solar PV and battery storage expert with 15 years of global experience across rooftop, distributed generation, and utility-scale projects. An electrical engineer from Antwerp, he has held leadership roles at Krannich Solar, SMA, and LONGi. He now represents the EMEIA and Americas regions at the Global Solar Council, driving strategic industry development.
Dr. Meryem Hamidi
Dr. Meryem Hamidi is a researcher and Sustainability & Partnership Growth Leader at PVI Sustainability, and Partner in ESG Strategy at Skillocity. Specializing in AI-driven renewable energy systems and smart grids, she leads high-impact decarbonization and innovation projects across MENA. Open to strategic collaborations and sustainability-focused opportunities.
Tarig Ahmed
Tarig has 16+ years of experience in renewable energy, energy policy, and climate finance. He leads IRENA’s work in the Middle East and North Africa and previously headed the Climate Investment Platform. Before IRENA, he worked with the World Bank Group, UNDP, and Sudan’s Ministry of Electricity. He is a Chevening Scholar and a Fulbright/Humphrey Fellow with studies at the University of Nottingham and Cornell University.
Dr. Jamila Juma Al Maazmi
Dr. Jamila Al Maazmi has 24+ years of experience in strategy, performance, project and asset management, quality, risk, innovation, and sustainability at DEWA. She holds a PhD in Project Management, a Master’s in Mechatronics, and multiple professional certifications, including IRCA Lead Auditor and Scrum Master. A founding member of DEWA’s Women’s Committee, she is an award-winning leader active in international professional bodies and community initiatives.
Dr. Li-Chen Sim
Dr. Li-Chen Sim specializes in hydrocarbon and low-carbon energy in the Gulf and wider Middle East and their intersection with international relations. Her work spans Gulf–Asia relations, Russia–Middle East dynamics, and regional political economies. She is the author of several books, including Asian Perceptions of Gulf Security and Low Carbon Energy in the Middle East and North Africa, and has widely published in leading academic journals and policy forums. A frequent speaker at institutions such as Chatham House, AGSIW, ECSSR, and the Belfer Center, she holds a PhD from Oxford University.
Robert Wright
Robert Wright is a global sustainability and public affairs leader with extensive experience across clean energy, sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs), and corporate sustainability. He previously served as Head of Sustainability at Intel Corporation and as CEO in the European biofuels sector. Robert is a specialist in EU and global chemicals policy and currently advises on clean energy and SAF strategies. He is also affiliated with the Middle East Business Alliance for Sustainability (MEBAS) and holds academic credentials from the London School of Economics (LSE).
