LONGi Solar Demonstrates Commitment to Green Energy at ACWA Power KAUST Innovation Days (2nd) 2024
Jeddah, 2024-01-24 – LONGi Solar proudly announces its active participation in the esteemed 'Innovation Days' event hosted by ACWA Power in collaboration with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST)”. The event served as a dynamic platform for industry leaders, experts, researchers, investors, and innovators to discuss and showcase groundbreaking projects in renewable energy, energy storage, water desalination, and green hydrogen.
James Jin, President of LONGi MEA&CA, represented LONGi in a prominent panel discussion titled "Accelerating the Deployment of Greener Technologies through Innovation" joined by ACWA Power and other Industry Leaders. James emphasized LONGi Solar's unwavering commitment to ‘Green Power + Green Hydrogen’ and outlined the company's vision for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
At this prestigious occasion, James highlighted the pivotal role of innovation, stating, "We always believe innovation leads into the future. For the past 24 years, we dedicated ourselves to innovation and value creation."
During the discussion, James shared key highlights of LONGi's technological advancements and commitment to research and development, contributing to the constant reduction of LCOE of the whole industry. By December 31, 2022, LONGi had won a total of 2,132 patents, showcasing its dedication to technological breakthroughs. LONGi proudly holds the world efficiency records of 27.09% for silicon solar cells and 33.9% for crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells.
While emphasizing the existing collaboration with ACWA Power and KAUST, James expressed, ACWA power is one of the greatest companies who has dedicated itself on “Reliably and responsibly delivering power and desalinated water at low cost”. ACWA power has signed MOU with LONGi for joint R&D on differentiated technology for MEA region, and also specific for the different application scenarios of ACWA Power projects. July 2023. The cooperation will be strengthened and deepen in the coming year. He went on to express that with KAUST, LONGi has signed the MOU during SNEC, in May 2023, aiming to leverage the expertise and resources of both organizations to accelerate the development and deployment of solar technologies, with a particular focus on advancing the efficiency and reliability of innovative photovoltaic (PV) technologies.
While interacting with the Panelists, James discussed actions to accelerate innovation for sustainable, affordable, and secure energy. He proposed promoting the development of green power + green hydrogen, stating that this solution maximizes the use of solar and wind resources and can be sustainable, affordable, and secure, thus a perfect potential game-changing innovation leading to greater advancements in green technologies. He said “LONGi has dedicated itself to be a solution provider of green power + green hydrogen. We have been focusing on optimization of LCOE for solar power system and LCOH for green hydrogen system. We trust the innovation on core products such as solar cells, solar modules, and Alkaline Electrolyzer can help accelerate the deployment of green power + green hydrogen.”
In closing, James referenced IRENA's insights on the global hydrogen economy, stating that by 2050, global hydrogen energy consumption could account for 12% of global energy consumption. He highlighted the significant investments expected in hydrogen production globally over the next decade and mentioned that LONGi looks forward to continuing its role as a catalyst for positive change in the global renewable energy landscape and remains dedicated to driving innovation for a sustainable future.
